Area Law Enforcement
Around 50 automobiles have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, exterior walls and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a release.
Police say they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The fluid had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then found numerous other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Police report early analysis suggest the fluid was likely blood from a person.
"There is still no clue as to where it came from; officials are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities announced they were trying "to resolve the case" and have asked to the community for tips.
A senior representative stated the incident made him speechless and needed to be solved rapidly.
"This incident affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he wrote on online, mentioning the murder of nine people by a gunman focusing on individuals of migrant background in 2020.
