A man who contaminated candy with tranquilliser and provided them to children at a youth camp in the area has admitted sexual offences against two boys aged between nine and ten.
The accused was detained after eight minors and one adult fell ill at the location in July.
The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a series of 17 offences when he was present at the courthouse on recently.
Yet, he denied one particular crime he was charged with, which was against a nine-year-old child.
Ruben was held in detention before a further hearing on 28 November.
'Treat game'
The legal representative, handling the case, outlined Ruben's offending to the judicial body.
She explained his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were attending a summer program which he ran.
The defendant conducted a "candy game" with the children, Mrs Prior said, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were settling down and tell them to ingest treats "as fast as possible".
She informed the proceedings the defendant had conducted this practice with the boys "repeatedly", and minors had previously become sick the next day.
She explained the defendant had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the minors being "overexcited from fun", until his family member had worries in recently.
The legal representative continued: "In the summer" his family member had suspicions about what was going on, for good reason.
"They chose" to have a look in the defendant's belongings."
The prosecutor stated items including infant oil, ointment and syringes were discovered, and his family member alerted the authorities about his suspicions.
She stated the defendant proceeded to engage in the "candy game" with six boys that evening - July 26th - and they were everyone unwell the next day.
"The police had not arrived by that time," she continued.
The police watchdog, the investigative body, earlier informed that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.
Mrs Prior explained the minors were unable to walk properly due to their condition, so Ruben's stepson contacted the authorities a second time.
She stated the man then played the "treat game" in a space of five minors.
